Immunity to Sars-CoV 2 after natural illness and serological diagnostic methods of Sars-CoV 2 infection
Summary:
Two years have passed since the emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome
caused by SARS-CoV-2 during which a wealth of research has been done to understand
the etiology of the pandemic, the immune responses and the valid and timely diagnosis
of the disease. Most people who have been infected achieve some form of immunity to
the virus with relatively few reported reinfections. However, our knowledge of the
extent and durability of this immunity against SARS-CoV-2 variants is still evolving.
This narrative review aims to understand the immune responses, innate and acquired,
following SARS-CoV-2 infection as well as the diagnostic tools available to date,
molecular and serological tests, discussing their advantages and disadvantages.
