The Grand Strategy of the People's Republic of China as a factor for the distribution of power on the competitions of the South China Sea
Summary:
The identification of the strategic directives of the People’s Republic of China on the South China Sea and the investigation of the effects of the materialization of late chinese ambitions on the distribution of power between the conflicting - littoral or not - national actors inside the - admittedly contested - aforementioned geopgraphical complex constitutes the focus of this thesis. The outline of the aforementioned grand strategy - as expressed through official channels, and as perceived, concurrently, by adversaries - will be followed by the presentation of the fundamental directions on which Beijing endeavours methodically during the last decade - and on which opposing actors are, therefore, being called upon to react.

This thesis is concluded with the analysis of the distribution of power between subsystem actors inside the geopolitical system under investigation through the utilization of the Systemic Geopolitical Analysis approach and the creation of a corresponding geopolitical model. The depiction of the influence of chinese grand strategy is being, therefore, achieved through the gleaning of a series of geopolitical indicators - relevant to the aforementioned late power projection on behalf of China - and their further processing through the use of a multitude of analytical tools, quantitative methods and software, attributing particular care to the thorough provision of documentation on handled data through the utilization of exclusively open - accessible to the general public - sources, as well as their visualization, thus enabling the most efficient communication possible of this study’s findings towards other analysts - and a wider, potentially not specialised audience.

The purpose of this thesis is hence dual - besides being a comprehensive overview of chinese grand strategy on the South China Sea and all the issues that thusly derive, this study aspires to constitute, in parallel, an exact application of the Systemic Geopolitical Analysis approach in the direction of the extraction of conclusions in an accessible manner for a geopolitical analyst.
