The Role of the Family in the Educational and Professional Decision-Making Process of Students
Summary:
The present study aims to investigate the role of the family and parents in making
educational and career decisions of children in the course of school life as well as
education. The paper studies the theoretical framework for the theories that have been
formulated about career development and then analyzes the factors that shape career
patterns which set the standards for the development of young people's careers. This
tour results in the investigation of family influence, which is considered the most
decisive link between children and society. Parents are responsible for transferring
standards, perceptions, values and aspirations to the child, setting guidelines and
interfering with their final choice of profession. At the heart of the thesis are the ways,
conscious or unconscious, in which parents can influence their children in choosing
careers but also the reasons why this is happening. To confirm the above, a
bibliographic review of relevant research that has been carried out at a global and
international level was carried out. Finally, the paper came up with suggestions for the
most discreet and less intrusive attitude that parents can adopt, so that they can
participate helpfully in their children's career path but also in highlighting the effective
effect exerted by the practical utilization of professional guidance and career
counseling, regarding self-investigation, developing self-efficacy, and making the most
comprehensive career decisions possible.
