Methods of improving seismic preparedness in low and high seismic risk coastal Mediterranean countries: a systematic literature review
Summary:
Worldwide, seismic preparedness levels have been found low among people. Populations of countries of the coastal Mediterranean region, even those living in the high seismic risk ones, constitute no exception to this. This Master’s Thesis is a systematic literature review, which investigates the level of earthquake preparedness in low and high seismic risk coastal Mediterranean countries, and analyzes methods of improving it. The methodology of this manuscript is based on the PRISMA 2020 guidelines for systematic literature reviews. The search of the literature was conducted from November the 10th of 2023, to March the 19th of 2024. Scopus, Pubmed, Google Scholar and Google search engine were used. Studies were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The initial search yielded 14323 articles and finally 24 of them were selected. These articles were assessed using the MMAT 2018 program. Methods of improving earthquake preparedness were categorized in individuals’, community, nation and international level. Thus, it made it possible to propose effective ways of improving earthquake preparedness, considering the grade of seismic risk and other specific factors of each one of these countries.
