Incidence, causes, outcomes of central retinal vein occlusion in young patients. A literature review
Summary:
Purpose: To summarize the differences in pathogenesis, risk factors, clinical
manifestations, treatment and prognosis between central retinal vein occlusion
in young and elderly patients.
Methodology: This literature review has been based on previous studies that
have been carried out and does not contain new studies.
Results: Although clinical manifestations are mostly similar between young
and elderly patients with CRVO, treatment efficacy as well as prognosis differ
significantly between the two age groups. Treatment of patients with CRVO
should be individualized and careful monitoring of visual acuity and regular
follow-up should be done to improve visual outcomes in all patients.
Conclusions: the etiology, pathogenesis, treatment and prognosis between
young and elderly patients with CRVO are different. Therefore, the diagnosis
and treatment of CRVO should depend on the characteristics and risk factors
of the patients.
