Forest fires in the years 2016-2020 in Greece – Review of fire phenomena
Summary:
Forest fires are a phenomenon that is one of the natural disasters, disrupting the balance of ecosystems and in several cases leading to large-scale, rapid and radical disasters, even to the extinction of forests.
Any forested area where it presents periodic droughts is susceptible to fires, as often happens in the Mediterranean regions, especially in the summer months, with its occurrence also negatively affecting human activities, causing a change in the climatic conditions of the urban areas that are adjacent to the burnt forests. In recent decades, the natural balance of the ecosystems of the Greek area has been disturbed mainly by extensive forest fires, which will continue to occur in the coming years at an increasing rate, destroying more and more forest areas.
