Management Proposal for the Land and Underwater Archaeological Site of Ancient Epidaurus
Summary:
Cultural heritage management is a scientific field that focuses on the protection, promotion, and preservation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Its aim is to disseminate cultural content to the general public.
According to the above, this diploma thesis attempts to design a proposal for the management of the archaeological site of Ancient Epidaurus, an area of particular historical, scientific, and cultural value. The high number of visitors to the wider area due to the Athens-Epidaurus Festival, as well as the archaeological site of the Asclepeion, make it important to exploit, promote, and protect the cultural heritage of the area.
In the first part of the thesis, an evaluation and presentation of the study area is conducted, utilizing all necessary data and understanding the existing conditions. Having recorded the elements, the second part delineates the objectives and the proposal for the management of the Archaeological Site of Ancient Epidaurus.
The general methodology of the research follows the stages outlined below:
- Recording and understanding the study area
- Evaluation of the area
- Proposal of a strategic management plan for the study area aiming at scientific documentation, protection, and promotion of the site.
