The evaluation of the contribution of Counseling and Professional orientation to the detection, cultivation, preservation and utilization of the gifts and talents of each student. Documentation of quality Counseling and Career Guidance policy and practices.
Summary:
This study examines how organized and of quality Career Guidance and Counseling is provided in Primary and Secondary Education can lead each student to identify, develop and maintain their talents and gifts. To this end, theoretical approaches to the concept of talent/ giftedness were studied as well as what features are required for a Career Guidance and Counseling of quality. For this purpose, a questionnaire was designed following the stages of quality assurance. To collect data 34 questions were formulated concerning the school ecosystem as a whole. The questionnaire was initially piloted with 20 teachers of all specialties, principles and career counselors. Afterwards, it was answered anonymously by 121 participants from public and private schools from all over Greece. A statistical analysis both, inductive and descriptive followed. The results showed lack of organized Career Guidance and Counseling as well as inefficiencies in both cognitive and material -technical aspects in schools. The interpretation of the findings is followed by nine suggestions of improvement according to the questionnaire’s reference categories, such as human resources, service provision, user and citizen participation and career education program outcomes
