Role of immunodeficiencies in recurrent ear infections in infants and children
Summary:
This thesis focuses on recurrent otitis media and its association with primary
immunodeficiencies.
In the first part, recurrent otitis media, which is a common pathology of the upper
respiratory system and is characterized by recurrent middle ear infections, is
presented. Etiological factors, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations and effects on
patients’ quality of life are analyzed. Additionally, primary immunodeficiencies, a
group of genetic disorders that affect the function of the immune system, making
individuals susceptible to chronic and serious infections, are analyzed.
In the second part, a systematic review of the existing literature is conducted, utilizing
research articles and studies that investigate the relationship between these two
pathological conditions. The information collected is presented through a comparative
table, which summarizes the main findings and results of the studies.
At the end, the results and conclusions derived from the study of the data are listed, as
well as suggestions for future research in order to enhance our understanding and
treatment of recurrent otitis media in patients with possible immune disorders.
