Valvular heart disease is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, affecting more than 2% of the general population. For the clinical cardiologist, a precise assessment of the anatomy and pathophysiology underlying each valvular disease is crucial. Early diagnosis and patients evaluation rely primarily on imaging techniques, incorporating advancements in new technologies. Recent guidelines serve as a valuable reference for the Heart Team in making appropriate decisions. In recent years, interventional and surgical options have expanded with minimally invasive procedures to achieve optimal outcomes with the lowest intraoperative risk. However, it should be noted that for the new techniques to be clinically applicable, the must be supported by published large patient series demonstrating long-term favorable outcomes.
