The contribution of electronic games to the inclusion of students with cultural differences
Summary:
The use of playing is considered the center of childhood. It has a catalytic role in the socio-emotional and cognitive development of all children and is part of their lives, without being influenced by factors such as race, culture and the environment in which a child grows up.
This paper discusses the value of play as a tool for educational and social integration of students with ethnocultural differences in Greek public schools. In particular, it explores the way in which teachers perceive integration in educational practice in recent years, after the large influx of immigrant and refugee flows.
The central research question is to investigate the views of teachers who have worked or are working with students with ethnocultural differences in public schools, regarding the integration of these students and the role that play can play as an educational tool for educational and social integration in the context of intercultural education.
A quantitative survey was conducted using a questionnaire, which consisted of closed-ended questions and which was based on an international and Greek literature review. The findings show that teachers have a positive attitude towards the educational and social integration of students with different cultural backgrounds in public primary schools and are also positive towards the use of games as an educational tool for integration. Finally, as they themselves point out, a decisive factor seems to be the training of teachers in intercultural education.
