Conflict management of school principals with education leaders
Summary:
This thesis aims to investigate the conflict management of school principals with
education leaders (Directors of Education at the regional unit level). At the same time,
emphasis is placed on the relationship between them and how communication is the key factor in conflict resolution and prevention. Also, this paper explores as well as the conflicts that arise between school principals and teaching and support staff, as they also affect the effective functioning of the school unit. At the end of the research, suggestions are provided by the principals on how to improve their cooperation with senior educational managers and avoid conflicts. Data was collected using semi-structured interviews on conflict and questionnaire, which highlights the leadership model followed by each principal. The analysis of the results highlighted several elements in both the area of conflict and communication. First of all, the quality of communication is characterized as "satisfactory", while tensions occur with a high frequency and on a small or large scale. Next, the results highlight that the factors that hamper conflicts are related to the demands and volume of work, lack of accountability and lack or absence of staff.
The findings highlighted the willingness of principals to resolve conflicts in order to
work more effectively with senior education managers. Among the solutions, communication dominates, which is a catalyst for conflict. Communication is feasible in many cases to work proactively and practically, since through this research it is shown that in cases where communication is done in advance, conflicts are minimized.
