<dc:description xml:lang="en">Τhis thesis examines the complex relationship between natural disasters, economic development, and business adaptation, aiming to highlight how social, economic, and institutional frameworks shape the intensity and duration of their impacts. The analysis is based on theoretical approaches, international case studies, and the Greek experience, in order to provide a comprehensive overview of the phenomenon. Initially, the study presents the theoretical background of natural disasters, the concepts of vulnerability and resilience, as well as international disaster risk reduction policies. Subsequently, the economic consequences are explored at both macroeconomic and microeconomic levels, emphasizing the ways in which disasters affect productivity, employment, and a country’s overall development trajectory. Particular emphasis is placed on the business dimension, examining adaptation strategies, the importance of technology and innovation, the need for insurance, and international practices that can serve as benchmarks for Greece. In addition, the role of the state, the institutional framework, and society is analyzed, with the aim of strengthening collective resilience. The findings indicate that the severity of impacts depends not only on the magnitude of the disaster, but also on the level of preparedness, coordination, and cooperation among institutions, businesses, and local communities. In conclusion, fostering a culture of prevention, promoting partnerships, and integrating resilience into strategic planning constitute key prerequisites for sustainable development and for addressing future challenges.</dc:description>
