<dc:description xml:lang="en">Alopecia areata is a non–life-threatening but psychologically burdensome autoimmune dermatological condition. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the quality of life of adult patients with alopecia areata and to investigate potential associations with sociodemographic and clinical factors. The study was conducted using a quantitative cross-sectional design in a sample of 100 adult patients, employing the validated Greek version of the Skindex-29 questionnaire. The results showed that alopecia areata significantly affects quality of life, with the greatest impact observed in the emotional domain (anxiety, concern about disease progression), followed by the functioning domain (social and occupational life). Female patients reported significantly higher emotional distress compared to male patients. Moreover, individuals with a history of psychiatric disorders exhibited increased impairment across all domains. In contrast, factors such as age, economic and family status, place of residence, and educational level did not demonstrate a statistically significant effect. Although physical symptoms were present, they did not constitute the main determinant of reduced quality of life. In conclusion, alopecia areata profoundly affects patients’ lives, highlighting the need for a comprehensive management approach that includes psychological support and social empowerment alongside dermatological treatment.</dc:description>
