<dc:description xml:lang="en">In the present thesis, thermally vulnerable areas of central Athens are investigated with the aim of understanding their morphological characteristics and developing specifically tailored adaptation measures. The identification of these areas will be carried out through the development of a multi-criteria system that utilizes data on three-dimensional urban morphology, land cover, satellite observations of land surface temperature (LST), and thermal comfort indices. Subsequently, targeted bioclimatic interventions are examined for each area, which may contribute to mitigating thermal stress and improving the quality of life of residents. These interventions include nature-based solutions such as tree planting in open spaces, the implementation of green roofs, as well as the application of cool materials. The implementation and evaluation of these interventions are based on the use of sophisticated urban environmental simulation models in order to assess their effectiveness under different spatial and microclimatic conditions. Specifically, the detailed microclimatic model ENVI-met is employed, along with the urban model UT&C, an urban canopy model which fully integrates the physical processes of urban vegetation. The ultimate objective of this research is to identify optimal solutions that will contribute to reducing the urban thermal load and enhancing thermal comfort in Athens.</dc:description>
