<dc:description xml:lang="en">Abstract Green development is often presented as the only response to the environmental and climate crisis. This master's thesis analyzes the implications of green development and the presence of international organizations and internationalized actors in the African continent, using the concept of "green colonialism" as its central axis, through a lens of critical theories. The thesis is structured in two parts. First, it examines the formation of green development as a means of domination and "capital accumulation" and then it analyzes empirical examples of extractive activities and green projects. The aim is to examine whether green development, through the presence of international organizations and other internationalized actors in Africa, leads to phenomena of "green colonialism." Finally, a discussion is conducted around the examples analyzed and whether the diffusion of environmental standards from the Global North to Africa may reproduce dependency relations similar to those of the past. Green development in Africa raises substantial questions regarding the motives of international interventions, their compatibility with local needs, as well as their real impact on the region's societies and ecosystems. Therefore, the need arises for a redefinition of green development that will guarantee sovereignty, active participation and climate justice for African societies, breaking down any form of potential historical continuity of (green) colonialism.</dc:description>
