<dc:description xml:lang="en">At the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), proton–proton collisions are recorded by detectors such as the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS), and these events are utilized by a variety of measurements and new physics searches. Jets, arising from the hadronization of energetic quarks and gluons, are among the most important physics observables in such physics analyses and searches. A key challenge in jet physics is flavour tagging, i.e. identifying the partonic origin of jets and distinguishing between gluon, light-flavour, charm and bottom jets. Jets in CMS are reconstructed using the Particle Flow (PF) approach and utilizing the anti-kT algorithm. Accurate b-jet identification is essential for numerous analyses, such as Z' boson searches with two b-jets in the final state. However, flavour tagging performance is typically evaluated on relatively low-pT datasets, such as tt̄ and QCD samples, while its behaviour in the high-pT regime remains less thoroughly studied. The present thesis aims to: (i) review existing flavour tagging methods, with emphasis on state-of-the-art machine learning approaches, namely ParticleNet and (Unified) Particle Transformer, (ii) evaluate pre-trained nominal CMS models for b-jet tagging on a high-pT dataset consisting of Z' → bb̄ signal and QCD background samples and (iii) retrain these models to improve b-jet tagging performance in this challenging kinematic regime.</dc:description>
