Room for Change: Assessing the Neopalatial Houses of Kommos and Pseira

The dissertation comprises 71 pages in six (6) chapters
plus an appendix and the bibliography. The first chapter offers an
introduction to Minoan domestic architecture. The second chapter
presents the basic chronological frames of the study. The third chapter
reviews past research and demonstrates the need for a detailed examination of
Late Minoan I houses. Chapter Four describes the methods employed
(see above) and justifies the selection of specific case studies. The fifth chapter is devoted to the analysis of archaeological data. It is divided into three
sections, one for Pseira, one for Kommos and one for a first discussion and
contrast of the results from the examination of the two sites. The sixth chapter
presents an overall and concluding assessment of the significance of the houses at
Pseira and Kommos. The former are argued to have been responsible for
community commodities within a loose hierarchical system of organisation. The
Kommos houses seem to have been more open and integrated in the settlement
and community.
