Clinical management of the HIV infection in Cyprus (1996-2011)
Summary:
The purpose of the PHD is the registration of the epidemiological, clinical and
laboratory parameters of the HIV positive patients and the statistical analysis
of this data in conjunction with the administration or the non administration
of ART . The data were collected from 405 patients of the Gregorios Clinic at
the General Hospital in Larnaca between September 1996 to April 2012. In
conclusion it is stated that the factors which are related to the lower number
of the CD4 lymphocytes during the initial diagnosis are advance age, African
and Eastern European origin. As far as the late diagnosis and advance disease
are concern factors which are negatively related are advance age, African and
Eastern European origin.. Determining factors of response to ART is the year of
initiation. Higher percentage of virologic failure can be found among people of
African and Eastern European origin. The virologic relapse is related to female
sex and late presentation. People with initial high level of viral load or with
initial low number of CD4 lymphocytes have an increase possibility of virologic
relapse.
The clinical outcome is related to the initial number of the CD4, year of
initiation ART, late diagnosis, IVDUs.
