Adaptation of cognitive schema therapy in greek population. Implementationin patients with chronic depression
Summary:
Schema Therapy (ST) is an effective model of psychotherapy for the treatment of
Personality Disorders. Research interest is expressed for the study of ST in
chronic Axis I disorders comorbid with Personality Disorders, like Chronic
Depression.
The aim of this Doctoral Dissertation was the adaptation of Schema Therapy in
Greek population and the implementation of a clinical trial for patients with
Chronic Depression.
It was developed in three phases:
In Phase I the instruments of ST were translated in Greek and the Young Schema
Questionnaire (YSQ) was validated in a sample of 1236 students and 124
patients. The inventory showed good reliability and validity and CFA supported
the proposed structure.
In Phase II the first ST training program organized in Greece. Duration was 16
months, 5 trainees participated and International Society of Schema Therapy
(ISST) approved it. 4 of the trainees succeeded and accredited by the ISST.
In Phase III the first in literature pilot study of ST for Chronic Depression
was implemented. 12 patients participated in a protocol of 60 sessions in 20
months. 7 patients remitted or responded satisfactory. Depression and anxiety
measures significantly decreased at the end of treatment and 6-months
follow-up. Effects were large and maintained.
