Motives and utility of humanitarian behaviour
Summary:
The term humanitarian behavior refers to behavior towards others, which has as
a central tenet the belief in the value, dignity and respect for all human
life, and condemns any kind of discrimination (racial, religious, economic,
cultural, sexual orientation, sex, state, ideology) and struggles for equality
and for the protection of human rights. It is a product of the humanitarian
movement that began in the 18th century and has as a basic doctrine that man is
inherently good and that if he iscaught in the proper environment he will
triumph. The term altruistic behavior refers to any situation where at least in
the short term the altruist "bares a cost" to benefit the "other".
