Ακτινοδιαγνωστική προσέγγιση άσηπτης νέκρωσης κεφαλής του μηριαίου οστού
Summary:
The term of ΄΄Avascular Necrosis΄΄ also known as Osteonecrosis of the femoral
head, refers to the wide range of the pathophysiologic changes that occur in
the subchondral bone, caused by the interruption of the blood supply, resulting
in the death of the osteocytes and the bone marrow.
This relatively common pathological clinical entity, usually leads to the
destruction of the hip joint.
Imaging methods are crucial for the correct and accurate diagnosis of the
disease, by ruling out disorders presented with painful hip and by confirming a
clinically suspected osteonecrosis in highrisk patients. Also imaging is
important for the quantification, staging and postoperative monitoring of the
disease.
Magnetic resonance imaging is highly sensitive in depicting early
osteonecrosis of the femoral head and is considered the method of choice for
the defitive diagnosis.
