Summary:
Approximately one million people are diagnosed each year with cancer of the
stomach, making it the fourth most common cancer. According to Chinese records
tumors, the annual report of 2012, stomach cancer is the third most common
cancer and the second leading cause of death in China. Nowadays the incidence
of cancer is reduced antrum and the frequency has increased cancer
kardiooisofagikis contribution. Heredity accounts for 10% of cases of gastric
cancer. However, infection with Helicobacter pylori (Helicobacter Pylori) is
the main cause of stomach cancer while autoimmune atrophic gastritis,
intestinal metaplasia and various genetic and nutritional factors associated
with increased risk of developing gastric carcinoma. The treatment of choice is
the complete surgical resection of the tumor. However, in most countries, the
majority of patients are diagnosed at an advanced stage and the prognosis is
poor. The first-line chemotherapy for advanced gastric cancer prolong overall
survival and improve quality of life compared with best supportive care. The
median survival of patients with advanced gastric cancer treated with
palliative chemotherapy is about 7 to 11 months. Therefore, the need for new
therapies is essential. In 2010, the use of Trastuzumab in HER2-positive
advanced gastric cancer in combination with chemotherapy and good response
rates, provide new hopes and expectations of the scientific community for
targeted therapy in the future.
