Summary:
With the development of prenatal screening and increase the diagnostic
capability was imperative and the desire for a parallel increase in the
possibility of intervention to restore ¨ newly diagnosed ¨ abnormalities.
The prenatal diagnosis by amniocentesis, a CVS, the omfalocentisis, fetoscopy
give answers to problems and dilemmas that arise in high-risk pregnancies (eg
maternal age over 35 years, increased nuchal translucency, serious inherited
diseases among parents, former child in a family with congenital abnormalities,
etc.).
A simple anatomical damage in an otherwise healthy fetus can lead to
irreversible damage after birth. Similar non-anatomical lesions which could be
treated after birth, leading to irreversible damage in utero may result in
fetal death.
Such examples demonstrate the need of the fetus in utero therapy which can
bring significant advantages to address the problem after birth.
This study deals with all these forms of treatment that can be applied today in
utero and to provide timely solutions to situations that are irreversible.
The field needs further study, considering the small numbers of randomized
trials that exist today. The field of fetal surgery is still a lot to give, but
to face many problems in order to offer everything in life fetuses.
