Summary:
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is one of the leading causes of death, with
increasing number of patients. The purpose of this work is to provide an
overview of the role of interventional radiology in the management of vascular
access dysfunction. Method: Review of 128 dialysis patients that treated in the
interventional department of the 2nd Department of Radiology from 04/2005 to
03/2012, as well as the litrature. Results: 128 patients, mainly between 60 and
80 years old, 73 men and 55 women. Venous anastomosis and outflow are the
commonest sites of pathology. Balloon angioplasty is usually all that is
needed, but in some cases cutting balloons, stents and stent-grafts are
required. Conclusion: Interventional radiology increase patency rates of
vascular access and overall survival of dialysis patients.
