Επιδημιολογικά χαρακτηριστικα και φυσική πορεία ασθενών με πνευμονική αρτηριακή υπέρταση
Summary:
Background: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAΗ) is a rare but severe disease.
It has been defined as an increase in mean pulmonary arterial pressure 25 mm
Hg at rest and 30 mmHg at exercise.
Aim and method: The aim of present literature review was to investigate the
recently epidemiological data of PAH and the effects of the disease in
patients. The literature review held in scientist databases "Pubmed" and
"Google Scholar". They were found 23 epidemiological studies about PAH.
Results: The most recent epidemiological study is REVEAL. Many studies used the
population of REVEAL for more research regarding to better comprehension and
confrontation of PAH. The disease affect more often women than men with
proportion 4:1. Early diagnosis and early initiation of treatment are useful
predictor factors of PAH . The 6MWD test seems that it is associated with the
clinical events of the disease. The indicator of survival appears to be
improved recently.
Conclusion: Further research of the epidemiological characteristics of PAH
should lead to better understanding of the pathophysiologic mechanisms of the
disease as well as to better evaluation of incidence of PAH in the general
population.
