Summary:
The urinary tract infection is a common problem in children. It is often the
first sign of congenital abnormalities of the urinary tract while it is more
rarely associated with long-term complications.
Purpose: the correlation of urinary tract infection with congenital
abnormalities of the urinary tract, particularly with vesicoureteral reflux
(VUR).
Methodology: We conducted a retrospective epidemiological study involving 95
children, aged from one month to 5 years, who were hospitalized. Children’s
symptoms, their imaging and laboratory testing, and treatment were recorded.
Results: The main children’s symptom was fever in 96%. Urinary leucocytes were
found in 77,5% . Culture results revealed E.Coli 69,5%, proteus 19%,
Klebsiella 7,5% and pseudomonas 1%. Ultrasound was pathological in 51,6%. 20%
of the children present regression of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) in various
grades. Specifically, the majority of the cases of children with VUR have an
