Ebola epidemic and pandemic influenza H1N1. New actions or lessons from the past show the way of dealing with?
Summary:
The mobilization of the international community against the pandemic influenza
H1N1 2009, was planned, rapid and thorough with the richer countries of North
America, the US and Canada playing significant role. On the other hand, in the
case of the recent Ebola Virus outbreak in West Africa, stakeholders and
mechanisms did not experience the same efficiency especially in the early phase
of the outbreak. As a result the number of cases increased exponentially
highlighting the inequalities in health systems worldwide and the
responsibilities and obligations of the developed countries to the developing
ones. For these reasons, the improvement of health infrastructure in the
developing countries with the support of the international community, the
review of the role of WHO and the upgrade of the operational capacity should be
the cornerstone of all subsequent efforts.
