Summary:
In this thesis, it will be studied the cervical cancer in relation with the
woman's reproductive system. The woman's reproductive system consists of a set
of organs, that their coordinated operation, is primarily designed to serve the
reproductive system.
The cervix is an organ that is consisted of many types of cells, which divide
in order to produce more cells, when the body needs it, performing their normal
function. When the cells divide and when this isn't necessary for the body, a
mass of tissue is formed. This mass of extra tissue, is called "tumor growth"
and it may be in a benign or malignant form.
The cervical cancer is the second of the most common cancer, occurring in women
in the age of 33 to 45 years, after cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore it is
the third in incidence of cancer in women and the fourth cause of death of the
gynecological cancer in worldwide range. Moreover, it is the third cause of
death in a worldwide range, after the breast cancer and lung cancer.
The infection in the human body, is originated from the papilloma virus (HPV),
which is the major risk factor for the development of cervical cancer. The
treatment of cervical cancer depends on the extent of disease. Both early
diagnosis and prevention of cervical cancer are crucial to address.The
prevention of cervical cancer mainly takes place through the regular audit with
Pap smears and by inoculation.
