DEPRESSION PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC CARDIOLOGICAL PROBLEMS

ABSTRACT
Introduction: The chronic heart problems and specific heart failure is closely
related to changes of emotion and show high intensity depression. Statements
such as cognitive dysfunction dementia, depression, social isolation and
maintenance conditions create negative feelings.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to assess the intensity of depression in
patients with chronic heart problems.
Material and Method: The study sample consisted of 203 patients with chronic
heart problems, like heart failure, hospitalized in ICU, cardiology departments
or visiting outpatient hospital for monitoring. of G.H. "THRIASIO". For data
collection the Beck depression scale was used. The Questionnaires were
completed by the patients themselves or by interviewing of the researcher. All
statistical analyzes were performed with the statistical package SPSS version
21 and the statistical test t-test and anova
Results: The study sample consisted of 202 persons suffering from chronic heart
problems. The majority of heart failure out of which 50% were male and 50%
female. According to the rating of the Beck scale, 53.5% shows physiological
changes in mood, 26.2% slight change of mood, the 7.4% threshold depression,
9.4% mild depression and 3.5 % severe depression. The statistical analysis
found that women experienced higher levels of depression p<0.001, as well as
marginal depression show people over the age of 60 years, p <0.001 Also, higher
levels of depression experienced by people who are widowed, p <0.001, the
illiterate and elementary graduates, p <0,001, people in household p <0,001,
people who had more than two children, p = 0,001 and people with their children
more than 18 years old, p = 0,006, hypertensive people, p <0,001, those
suffering from some other disease, p = 0,042 and people visiting their doctor
or the hospital more than two times in a month, p <0,001 and those who had
experienced a myocardial infarction , p = 0,010.
Conclusion: For the intensity of depressive patients with chronic heart
problems responsible are both clinical and social demographic factors. With the
increased awareness of health professionals and the recognition of the
relationship between social demographic and clinical characteristics and
depression in patients with HF, clinical doctors and nurses will be better
equipped to provide personalized and specialized treatment .
