Summary:
Smokings by the expectant mother as well as alcohol and drug use are the most
important cause of severe complications in pregnancy. These factors are the
causes for adverse sometimes pregnancy outcome but also for many health
problems that occur in the neonatal and childhood. More specifically , smoking
during pregnancy increases the incidence of placenta previa , placental
abruption , ectopic pregnancy and premature rupture of fetal membranes .
Alcohol in pregnancy is responsible to cause the baby more likely to have
learning disabilities , speech , ADHD , language problems and hyperactivity.
These harmful effects are known as consequences of fetal alcohol syndrome . The
continued use of addictive substances are dangerous, but the abrupt withdrawal
after heavy use during pregnancy is also dangerous because it can cause
withdrawal syndrome in the mother and the fetus , even at the risk of death and
the mother and fetus . The treatment modalities, should be done in a hospital
and not at home . So we need to have a proper eating behavior of the mother
during pregnancy to a positive outcome for the fetus and subsequent health but
also for her own health.
