Summary:
This dissertation’s subject is Antitrust in Telecommunications. Chapter 1
analyzes the concept of monopoly with particular emphasis on entry barriers.
Chapter 2 analyzes the concept of perfect competition .We examine if the model
of perfect competition is realistic and we make an economic analysis of it.
Chapter 3 analyzes the concept of imperfect competition (monopolistic
competition and oligopoly). Chapter 4 presents the competition’s benefits and
the reasons why it is important. In an effort to promote competition United
States and European Union developed Antitrust Law as we see in Chapter 5, of
greatest importance are articles101 and 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of
the European Union. European Antitrust law is part of the EU’s overall
Competition Policy, the objectives of which are presented in Chapter 6. Chapter
7 analyzes European Telecommunications Market and its history. Chapter 8
analyzes four major cases as examples of the implementation of the European
Antitrust Law in the European Telecommunications Market. After examining these
cases in chapter 9 we present ordinary abusive practices that are met in the
implementation of Antitrust Law in Telecommunications. Two practices are
identified: a) margin squeeze, b) denial of access to the local loop.
