Volcanic Risk and International crisis in aviation, the case of EYJAFJALLAJOKULL, Iceland
Summary:
Volcanic activity affects the areas in which it appears. Depending on the
extent and the intensity of the phenomenon the results might be minor damages,
huge disasters or international crisis. Volcanic eruptions affect the aviation
due to the gases and the particles that produce and release into the
atmosphere. The ash cloud which is produced is able to interrupt and block the
flights and cause problems to the airports. This paper describes how volcanic
activity can affect the aviation. After having analyzed the basic means and
definitions of the work, such as volcanic activity, crises and disasters and
aviation, then is extensively presented the international crisis which caused
by the Eyjafjallajokulvolcano in Iceland which exploded on April 14, 2010.
Through this work it is possible to identify the weaknesses in the prevention
and management in a situation like this, in order totry to avoid such crises in
the future.
