Study of Energetic Particles in the Jovian Magnetosphere
Summary:
In this study we used data from the EPD (energetic particle detector) of
Galileo Orbiter. These data included proton and electron count rates for 38
orbits and flybys inside the Jovian Magnetosphere. The first step of this work
was to remove the contamination levels from the 4 lower energy proton channels.
Then we calculated the energy spectra for each time step and the kappa
distribution fit for protons and power law fit for electrons using the
Levenberg-Marquardt method. In addition we calculated the four moments of the
energetic particles and the characteristic energy as well as the
microsignatures of the differential flux for each flyby. Finally we calculated
the pitch angle distribution for each flyby.
