Contribution to the study of the strong Etesians winds on Aegean Sea
Summary:
In this graduation thesis, we focus on the following subjects: a) To the strong
wind which reaches speed more than 20 knots (daily average speed). These winds
have observed during the years 1970- 2004 for the months June, July, August and
September. More specifically, performing our data we counted that the wind
reached the speed of 20 knots at 3 stations at the same time. b) We study
surface maps and maps of 500 hpa. We classify the days with speed over 20
knots and we try to distinguish them with the use of weather maps. Finally, we
obtain to 4 classifications of surface maps and maps of 500hpa in which the 80
days belongs to. c) We study any possible change of frequency and speed of wind
during the years 1970- 2004 by analyzing the trend for data collected by the
meteorological stations of HNMS. We also study the statistically significant of
this trend using Mann-Kendall method. d) We perform cluster analysis to
classify the stations which exhibit similar behavior in terms of the frequency
of occurrence Etesian wind and we obtain 3 basics classifications of Etesian
wind .
