A survey of service function chaining schemes, protocols and architectures in SDN-enabled WAN networks
Summary:
The primary objective of this thesis is the presentation of the Service
Chaining technology using the new technologies of Software Defined Networking
(SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV). Specifically, a first
description of Cloud Computing and Virtualization is presented, which forms the
basis of the aforementioned technologies. Then, an analysis of SDN and NFV
follows, as well as a description of the OpenFlow protocol. Finally, a detailed
description of the architecture of Service Chaining is presented, its basic
components and the interactions between them. At the same time, the main steps
for its advance as well as implementation issues that need to be tackled are
mentioned, in order to implement chaining to the provided services for better
performance and network utilization.
