Summary:
Following a description of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and of various
reconstruction methods, the numerical implementation of analytical Splines
Reconstruction Technique (SRT) is presented. Acceleration methods for SRT are
described, among which the most important is use of symmetries. A method of
limiting the reconstructed image within the object boundaries is
also presented. Comparison of SRT with Filtered Backprojection (FBP), the
most popular analytical reconstruction algorithm, is performed in terms of
speed and of reconstructed image quality by use of image quality metrics.
