Synthesis and characterisation of polymeric nanocontainers as drug delivery systems
Summary:
The research presented in this thesis, empasises on the development and
characterization of nanocontainers via the distillation precipitation
polymerization technique. Initially, the core polymethacrylic acid, was
synthesized using a non-protic, polar solvent, and the initiator AIBN. The core
was coated with crosslinked polymethacrylic acid and then removed in an
ethanol-water solution, thereby forming an empty structure. The resulting
nanocontainers exhibit, dependence on changes in pH, and redox behavior.
Moreover, chemical synthesis was used to manufacture quantum dots, which were
then trapped within the polymeric shell of the nanocontainers. In this way, the
nanocontainers fluoresce by applying a specific wavelength radiation.
Furthermore, the research continued with the synthesis of silver nanoparticles,
which were then trapped in two ways in the polymeric shell (pre-loading method
and post-loading method).
Finally, the characterization of both nanocontainers and the nanoparticles
(quantum dots, silver NPs) was performed via scanning electron microscopy
(SEM), electron microscopy permeability (TEM), infrared spectroscopy (IR),
dynamic light scattering (DLS), ultraviolet visible spectroscopy (UV -Vis),
X-ray diffraction X (XRD) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).
