Development of presentation for the course "Introduction to Informatics"
Summary:
The aim of this diploma thesis is the development of MS PowerPoint
presentations for the course "Introduction to Informatics", targeting university
students of theoretical departments. The purpose of this course is to teach
students the significance of computers, hardware, software, networks, the
Internet, multimedia and information systems, including their structure and
function. It also aims at emphasizing how the above affect our lives and what
is their use. The students are informed of the security issues associated with
computers, as well as the ethical aspects arising from the use of computers
and the Internet. The aforementioned presentations were developed by
addressing the key elements of computers, networks, the Internet and
multimedia that a student needs to be aware of so as to understand their
function and use. Furthermore, for a more comprehensive view, the
presentations include chapters discussing Internet security, the multimedia -
Internet relationship, information systems, matters of ethics and impact on our
lives and the environment. The slides begin by describing the educational
goals and an overview of the subjects analyzed in each chapter, include a
historical background, if applicable, and are enriched with illustrative images
and examples. Subsequently, brief questionnaires are given for a better
understanding of certain concepts and a summary of the topics discussed.
Moreover, a detailed analysis of the corresponding terminology is provided in
Greek and English.
