Summary:
The Lisbon Treaty emerged as a way out of the crisis experienced by the European Union following the failure of the adoption of the European Constitution. This Treaty has retained many of the institutional innovations of the European Constitution, in an attempt to reconcile the two diametrically opposing trends in the European experiment from the very beginning of its creation; intergovernmentalism and supranationalism.
This study will attempt to examine the nature and effectiveness of the Lisbon Treaty. More specifically, the main objectives of the study are; a) the understanding of the phenomenon of European integration, b) the examination of the nature of the Lisbon Treaty changes, c) the observation of the Treaty’s application and d) providing estimations about the prospects of European integration.
