Summary:
The main focus of this dissertation is whether and to what extent the clean hands doctrine has acquired a certain normative status as a general principle in public international law and what procedure took place for this to happen. Secondly, the specific requirements for its invocation are scrutinised and additional criteria are proposed. Finally, the international courts and tribunals views with regard to the invocatio of the doctrine in every stage of the adjudication (jurisdiction, admissibility, merits) are subject to examination.
