Celebrity Politics: Διάσημοι στο πολιτικό προσκήνιο – Obama 2012 Campaign
Summary:
The political communication sector changed once and for all with Barack's Obama 2008 campaign, when he became the first African American resident of the USA. Using a very strong grass root movement of volunteers and celebrity endorsers, Obama managed apart from wining, to set a new foundation on the ways politicians communicated their message to their audience through spectacle. In 2012 Obama was called to overcome the campaign that led him to the White House four years earlier by re-branding image. He succeeded in staying in power by turning his numerous celebrity endorsers to grass-root volunteers who Knocked door to door to spread his message, while he graduated from the outsider to the "hero" President. The aim of thiw dissertation is to study the way Obama's 2012 political communication is being absorbed by different focus groups of Greeks and American citizens, from different ages, political views and educational backgrounds.
