Η ΕΕ και ο πόλεμος της Γεωργίας του 2008. Ένα σημείο καμπής για τις σχέσεις ΕΕ και Γεωργίας;
Summary:
The war of 2008 has changed the facts and the context of EU-Georgia relations. Their relations until then were conducted via the framework of the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP). The Russian intervention and the renewed competition between Russia and the EU for their common neighborhood pushed the EU towards the strengthening of EU-Georgia relations, via the launch of the Eastern Partnership (EaP). During the Russo-Georgian war the EU has successfully intervened, facilitated a cease-fire and has gained more influence in the conflict resolution process. The EaP has deepened EU-Georgia relations, but hasn't been able to deliver, due to its limitaitons, the EU-Russia competition and EU's reluctance to offer the incentive of EU-membership. The successful intervention during the war has been more of a success of the French Foreign Policy than the Moscow's interests. The new regional realities have shown the limitations of EU policies on Georgia. This study is trying with the help of a set of policy-oriented proposals to offer ways to deepen EU-Georgia relations, to upgrade the role of the EU and keep Georgia firmly on its track towards integration.
