Management of cancer patients (Syria and Libya)before and after displacement
Summary:
It has been four years since the start of the civil war in Syria which started as violent suppression of the spread of “Arab Spring” a movement that influenced almost all countries of North Africa and Middle East. International community confronts the worst humanitarian crisis of last years and a refugee crisis which is the largest, referring to people displaced by a conflict, in modern history. Syria and Libya are affected most as violent war conflicts are endless and a solution to offer political stability in the area is not yet on the spot. Greece is a host country for thousands of refugees who would like to fled in Europe but their request is not always feasible so they remain trapped in Greece. Other countries of Middle East as Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey are host countries for millions of refugees who are staying in refugee camps for more of three or four years. Host countries are facing the enormous challenge of providing health care to these people. International health community has realized that as the situation becomes more or less permanent, non communicable diseases as cancer become a threat that needs to be confronted despite the expensive treatments. Furthermore in Syria and Libya cancer patients are neglected as priority is given to emergencies and life threatening situations as trauma. Current health system capacity to diagnose and treat cancer in Libya and Syria is inadequate and further investigation has to be done as there is lack of reliable information due to the unstable political situation.
Future directions or trends has to be considered in order to resolve the major health crisis in Middle East and North Africa.
