Summary:
This thesis focuses on the concerns expressed by Elie Kedourie in his work in relation to issues of religion and politics. Important part of these concerns is related to societies in Near and Middle East during the period of modernity. According to Kedourie, the modernization of these societies brought violent roll-overs in every day lives of their populations. The traditional order was shaken. The rationalization raised by outlandish and western examples, questioned political and religious attitudes of centuries. Among other things, Kedourie, refers to the form that politics has taken in the West during the period of French Revolution and to the consequences of adopting this form of politics, both in Western and non-Western societies. Some of the issues under discussion are the relationship between nationalistic ideology and religion, the boundaries between religious and political reality in the societies of the East and the responsibility of humans for their political choices.
