Ελλάδα, Ισπανία, Ιταλία: κοινοτικές, μεσογειακές «πύλες» της παράνομης μετανάστευσης.
Summary:
In the present study, we are attempting to review the phenomenon of illegal immigration, towards the European Union with three main Mediterranean member states. Greece, Spain and Italy, traditionally expatriate countries, have been found unprepared in the face of these new international conditions at the dawn of the 1990s, which led to their structural transformation into countries of destination or transit of illegal immigrants. Based on the conclusions drawn for their policies adopted so far, Greece and Italy have not lost their newly acquired status as "gateways", as they remain vulnerable to the international problems that arise from their serious inability to deal with illegal migrants Their flows and to preserve their borders.
As far as Spain is concerned, it is a special case since it seems to have largely solved the problem of flows to its territory through a more "diplomatic" immigration policy it has implemented. The Community and national actions undertaken in this area are valuable in drawing up the required integrated common policy against illegal immigration, Which is characterized by global economic, political and social changes, as we are going through.
