Summary:

Aim of this thesis is contributing to the study of modern folk poetry through the poems of a folk poet from Xiromero. The evolution of folk poetry from the folk song to modern printed and electronic folk poetry is presented and the influence of the folk song on the poems of the popular poet Georgios Vardis is emphasized through the identification of the stylistic elements and the social contexts in his work. At the same time the stylized elements, influences and themes of modern folk poetry that function in a renewed way and express the modern reality are being highlighted.
