Summary:
This study aims to explore the application of digital storytelling upon the creation of personal illness narratives regarding chronic illness and specifically Crohn’s disease. The main research question is how the participants described and communicated their personal experiences with this particular illness and its challenges through digital storytelling. Six people participated in the study, three men and three women, aged from 26 to 59 years old, all diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at least five years prior to their participation. The six digital stories that were collected were analyzed using a narrative analysis approach. The results of this study indicate three main ways which the participants chose to communicate their illness experiences and have significant implications for the use of digital storytelling in creating illness narratives.
