Vocational personality and contemporary trends in career management: Α validity study
Summary:
This thesis aims to study the validity of vocational personality in relationship
with contemporary trends in career. A connection of the protean and boundaryless
career attitudes with two of Holland’s personality types (Enterprising and
Conventional), as well as with the Aesthetic Values and the dimensions of
Explanations of Unemployment Scale will be attempted. In particular, the study
explores and explains the extent to which all theoretical dimensions of these
measurement scales are coordinated. For this purpose an empirical research conducted
with the participation of workers, both men and women over 18 years, in the general
population. For the investigation six questionnaires were used, each of which refers to
a basic concept that attempts to explore this thesis. Collected data were processed,
with a descriptive approach and psychometric analysis of questions, such as reliability
analysis, analysis of measurement errors and general questions analysis, factor
analysis to investigate the structural dimensions and contextual analysis, for the
overall control of synchronic validity. Τhe results of the survey reveal that Holland’s
Conventional type does not appear to be related to the measurements of the new forms
of career, and the Enterprising type shows correlation with the Boundaryless Attitudes
Scale. Finally, protean and boundaryless career attitudes scales relate to one another,
but are also distinct constructs.
