This paper examines the driving forces that led to the creation of EMU and, subsequently, the Eurozone's viability. These two issues are linked: the Franco-German goals in Maastricht have shaped an inadequate institutional framework, whose basic philosophy remains in place, jeopardizing the survival of the Eurozone. Will Eurozone ultimately survive? Unless there is more economic solidarity, the answer given here is negative.
